July 4th laundry soap

We got through Canada day. My lovely girls are 13 and 14 now. They can do Canada day by themselves.  I get to sit at Debs in the shade and the girls come back to me when they are done exploring.

Laundry is never ending.  I feel like I have more than the usual family.

I make my own laundry soap. I use ends of bars of soap. My friend who works for us, Karolina. Makes her own bars of doap from her goats. So we are very blessed. I like not buying laundry soap because of the plastic tubs it comes in. I get about 9 jugs of laundry soap out of this recipe.  I do like to add a jug of arm and hammer laundry soap to it so it smells gooder.

My garden is going great. We are eating our veggies out of thr garden now.  We had Beets and a big Zucchini and lots of peas this week.

We have cucumbers and Cantaloupe flowering. Our apple tree looks so great.  It's hot now and we need a rain. Our bedroom air conditioner puts out a 5 gallon pail of water a day so I carry it down to the garden.  Win win

June 26. First day of summer holidays

We picked strawberry.  I took Benny to the berry patch. He was very good. We also got snap peas. Then we visited Jen and Russell.
Emily and I made jam. Later we made biscuits.  Emily put orange zest in them. It was so amazing with the warm.jam
It was a hot day but in the evening we had thunderstorms and rain. My garden is doing great.  I have peas coming and Zucchini that I think I will be able to pick in a week.

Spring 2023 may

Zucchini

Rhubarb

Radishes and snow peas

Rhubarb pie

Spring has been wonderful this year. I started my seeds inside this year. I have old German tomatoes and roma tomatoes  cucumbers,  jalapeños peppers and regular peppers.  I moved Zucchini and Cantaloupe plants outside.  I covered each one with a glass jar so it's like a greenhouse.
I planted seeds outside of Radishes,  and snow peas and Beets. I have not had luck with peas before but they are coming up.  This weekend I will put my carrot seeds in the garden.
Tomatoe plants are not big enough to move outside yet. I will wait until may 24th.
I also made 3 potato plants in pots. We will plant potatoes outside after the cattle corn has been sprayed.
Right now we are eating Rhubarb and asparagus.  My mom brings the asparagus from her farm land. We love it. Having fresh food is wonderful.

I was looking for a quick supper tonight.  This looks like it will be enjoyed.  Pioneer woman's recipe.  It took me 20 mins. Great for a night I didn't have a plan or want to make supper.

2022 October

Its a beautiful day today. We pulled the garden out yesterday.  Today I picked up the supplies for canning another batch of salsa.

I got real inspired to cook. I made pickled Beets from our garden.  3 lbs of Beets makes 4 small
Jars. I made a batch of salsa. That may be the end of my canning for this season.  With my jam and sweet pickles, my cupboard is full.

It's cool enough for stews and soups. I got ham with bone in at Walmart. I cooked it this afternoon.  I made scalloped potato for supper 😋 it is so good.  I made a ham and potato soup for tomorrow.

The trees are in colour. It is so nice out that I'm going to have a bonfire.

Fresh cherry cobbler

Tonight I went to a Freezer party. Everyone brought something out of the freezer. I baked two loaves of cheese bread that were in the freezer.  I had a container of sour cherries from Deb B cherry tree. I made cherry cobbler from allrecipes.  I used gluten-free flour. It turned out so good. I added strawberries to the cherries for sweetness.

The party was very fun and the cobbler and cheese bread were a big hit. Definitely going to make that recipe again.

Canning pickles

Yesterday the neighbor Grace called and asked me if we wanted cucumbers.  I sent Emily and Ashley over and they picked about 50 cucumbers.  Today I'm making bread and butter pickles. I really do like canning.

Not only do I get to store the fresh veggies from

our garden but also Leslie gave me her classico Spaghetti sauce glass jars so I am using those up.  Recycling ♻️  The traditional Mason jar lids and rings fit right on top.  I got 15 jars of bread and butter pickles.  Yum
